INRTODUCTION

  • After completing circle weeding we started the next task to take care of this durian plot. This week we are doing pruning and mulching before we go home for the mid-sem holidays.

OBJECTIVE

  • To remove diseased, dead, or damaged plant parts to prevent the spread of disease and infection.
  • To help reduce water evaporation from the soil, so that the soil remains moist for longer.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
  • Pruning saw (1 unit)
  • Glove (1 pair)
  • Boots (1 pair)
  • Pruning shears (1 unit)


WORK SCHEDULE

6.30 A.M to 8.00 A.M
  • This week we start activities as usual. Each rocall will be held before going down to their respective plots. We will also sing three songs at each rock call, namely the song Negaraku, the song Setia Wawasan Setia Warga UiTM and the Planters song. This week we were asked to discuss or present a topic about Food Security: Lack of rice supply in the market (why/how it happened, and how it affects us as consumers) and government intervention/initiatives in dealing with the issue.
8.00 A.M to 8.30 A.M
  • We prepare the equipment that will be used on the durian plot.
  • We started moving to the durian patch and planning the day's work trip.

8.30 A.M to 10.30 A.M
  • We begin to continue the work that needs to be done on the row of each tree or durian tree. We start pruning the first tree or plant.
  • We were allowed to go up to Agrotech. We need to clean and repack the equipment that we have used in the plot.
  • We were allowed to go back to college.

·       Promotes growth to ensure the branches of the tree get enough sunlight.

 

·       Improve fruit quality because it can reduce competition between fruits and direct the tree's energy to the production of better quality fruit.

 

·       Branch to branch spacing must be one foot.

 

 

 

 

Mulching

 

·       Reduce evaporation to maintain soil moisture so that durian trees get enough water.

 

·       Regulates the temperature of the soil because it can protect the roots from extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.

  • Input: Hextar Malathion 840 (8ml/4.5 liters) and chlorpyrifos + cypermethrin.
