INRTODUCTION

  • After identifying the problem found in the durian plot last week, we started to overcome the problem by doing circle weeding first.

OBJECTIVE

  • To reduce competition for water and nutrients between plants and weeds.


TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
  • Hoe (1 unit)
  • Glove (1 pair)
  • Boots (1 pair)


WORK SCHEDULE

6.30 A.M to 8.00 A.M
  • As usual before going down to their respective plots, students will be involved in rollcall. We sang three songs, the song Negaraku, the song Wawasan Setia Warga UiTM and the song Planters. In this rollcall, we also heard presentations from students in semester 1, semester 2 and semester 3 regarding the reason for the increase in the price of cocoa beans in Malaysia. What I understand is that the price of cocoa is increasing because the price of cocoa is affected by various factors that can cause demand to exceed supply and vice versa. Cocoa bean farms are very vulnerable to severe weather conditions. This environment requires consistent rainfall and warm temperatures. Insufficient or too much rain can produce a weak crop, causing cocoa supplies to decrease and prices to rise.

8.00 A.M to 8.30 A.M
  • We prepare the equipment that will be used on the durian plot.
  • We started moving to the durian patch and planning the day's work trip.

8.30 A.M to 10.30 A.M
  • In the square, we moved to our respective rows of durian trees. We will begin the task we have planned. We started to do circle weeding on the first durian tree which took so long for us to prepare for that one durian tree because this durian tree has such a big canopy. Next, we moved to a durian tree that also has a large canopy, resulting in us also having to take a long time to do circle weeding on the tree. We took a picture of the durian tree that had been circle weeded.

Challenges when doing work:

1.

Tree no. 1
 

·       Has such thick weeds.


·       Can remove as many weeds as possible that are dense around the plant.

 

 

·       Has a large canopy.

 

·       Plant roots that arise on the surface of the soil.

 

·       Thick weeds.

 

·       There is an irrigation system near the plants.

2.

·       Has such thick weeds.

10.30 A.M to 11.00 A.M 
  • We were allowed to go up to Agrotech. We need to clean and repack the equipment that we have used in the plot.
  • We were allowed to go back to college.


OBSERVATION

From the activity, students can understand why it is necessary to remove weeds found near plants.
